BUS SAFETY/PRIVILEGE
For all of us here at Holy Name, bus safety is a major focus. We are asking parents to please review the bus safety rules with their children. Students are expected to behave appropriately on the bus for the safety of themselves and others.
Be on time ( 5 minutes early).
Watch for the driver’s signal before crossing the road.
Never run to or from the bus.
Board quickly, be polite with each other, do not push or shove.
Always remain seated
No eating, drinking or shouting on the bus.
Never put /throw anything out of the window.
Always cross the road TEN big steps in front of bus.
Always obey the bus driver.
In the case of misconduct a student will be warned and parents notified. In cases where a student persists in failing to meet our safety expectations bus privileges shall be suspended.
SAFE ARRIVAL/ABSENCES
All student absences must be reported by phone: (905) 833-5852 -- to the school office. Please note that you may make use of the school’s answering machine from late afternoon 4:30 p.m. to 8:45 a.m. This procedure ensures that both home and school are aware of the whereabouts of the children at all times. If we do not receive a phone call from you, we will be phoning parents at home or at work or the emergency caregiver.
BUS CANCELLATION
Our Winter season brings with it unpredictable weather conditions. We would like to inform you of procedures that will be implemented in the event that buses have to be cancelled or recalled early. Please note carefully the following procedures and suggestions:
• If buses are cancelled in the morning they will not run at all during the day. If your children arrive at school it will be your responsibility to ensure that they are picked up by 3:45 p.m. and that they get home safely.
• On the days that buses are cancelled, the school will remain open during the regular school hours (8:45 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. ) for those students who are able to make it to school and home again with their parents.
• Information regarding bus cancellation and/or school closings will be broadcast beginning at 7:00 a.m. on the following radio stations:
CKYC 590 AM
AM640 640 AM
CFTR 680 AM
CHUM 10.50 AM
CKDX 88.5 FM
CHIN 1540 AM
CHUM 104.5FM
SRC 90.3 FM
CITY-TV
In the final analysis, you the parent, must exercise good judgment in deciding whether or not to have your children attend school on these days. Please discuss emergency proceedures with your children. Your child needs to know what to do in the event that you are delayed and they have no way of getting into the family home. Routines should be established; which neighbour(s) they should go to, or where they may look for a key. The safety and welfare of the children is our main concern.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our Catholic School Council represents You and acts as an advisory group to the principal. The Catholic School Council is an organized group of parents, one teacher, one non-teaching staff, a parish representative, one community representative and the principal who assists in parent/school communication and the implementation of school goals. All members on the council are equal partners. We urge our parents to support our Catholic School Council by either serving on one of our sub-committees open to all parents or simply by attending one of our monthly meetings.
YARD SUPERVISION
Teachers are on supervision from the arrival of the first bus (8:45 a.m. approx.) until the buses leave at the end of the school day. During the school day, students are expected to play in the designated supervised areas. Please ensure that your children arrive at school during the supervised period.
